Bipolar Disorder

A major focus of my clinical and academic work is psychological therapy for bipolar disorder, including CBT- informed approaches.

Bipolar disorder can affect much more than mood. Episodes of depression, hypomania or mania can have an impact on relationships, work, sleep, confidence and your sense of identity.

Typically, people are better able to understand and manage depression, whereas mania is often less well understood. Therefore, my therapy sessions place particular emphasis on helping you to recognise, understand and manage experiences of mania.

Additionally, therapy for bipolar may help you to:

  • understand and come to terms with a bipolar diagnosis

  • recognise early warning signs of mood changes

  • develop more stable routines and sleep patterns

  • cope with the impact of previous episodes

  • understand thoughts and beliefs associated with hypomania or mania

  • reduce the risk of future episodes

  • navigate the impact of bipolar disorder on relationships, work or study

My clinical work is informed by my academic interests in bipolar disorder. I have contributed to published research and presented work internationally on psychological approaches to bipolar disorder.
